CERN CMS Tracker Support Structures / Geneva

Over more than 2 years, Formtech Composites developed with CERN the Tracker Support Structures – 72 TBPS Rings – for the Hi-Lumi CMS – the 14,000-tonne muon detector. The CMS contains 72 carbon fibre foam sandwich rings with challenging flatness requirements. The tricky part of this – and one key reason why such detector geometries with small increases in tilt angle are so innovative and were never constructed before – is the complicated mechanical arrangement.

RLE International & Formtech Composites on UK Innovate developed fire-resistant Battery Tray

The developed Battery Tray survived the “Teardown” - the event stayed completely in the enclosure – no external flames or burnthrough.
